Sorry Louisville #61 and Cincinnati #49 but Lexington is ranked #21 according to U.S. News & World Report. So, how did they come up with a number like that and why do they look like this past basketball season’s rankings?!?
Lexington was found to be a top place to live for several reasons to include scenic roads, Keeneland, Kentucky basketball, and public surveys.
How do we make Lexington even greater? Perhaps, redevelop the north side to include a path for foot traffic in all areas of New Circle Rd with traffic lights so our citizens can easily walk or ride bicycles to all businesses on the New Circle Rd and get exercise. The city should consider connecting all trails and finish the Brighton project. For example, check out the northern Ohio Metroparks where you can run, bike, ride a horse, etc., from Cleveland west thru 23,000 acres of forests, streams, rivers, parks & trails.
Even the Hamburg/Andover/ACE area could use a public pool, skate park and tennis court. How about a “Tour De Kentucky” mini bike race through the surrounding counties with the last 20 miles being around New Circle Rd and finishing downtown?
Lastly, up the ante on parades by providing a donation to the winning group who has the best display of the event we are celebrating.
We all should be very happy with doing our part at citizens of this great city, but there is always room to improve.
